It was love at first site for me. Tottie Cat reminds me of my daughter Kylah. Kylah is 9 years old and LOVES animals. All animals, but cats are her favorite.
A little over two years ago Kylah asked me if she could start volunteering at the animal shelter that is just down the road from where we live. Knowing that I would have to volunteer with her I wasn’t very excited, but wanted to support her so I said yes. I thought it would be great bonding time. In the last two years, this little girl has taught me how to love animals too. We have learned so much together. We went from just volunteering at the shelter to fostering kittens and also cleaning the kitty kennels at Pet Co every Saturday.
Kylah interviewed the Volunteer Coordinator at the shelter for a school project this year. I was amazed at how many animals were helped in our area. (Our shelter is a no kill shelter)
239 animals were fostered – 173 kittens, 21 puppies, 30 cats, and 13 dogs.
They adopted out 1,452 animals – 349 cats, 231 kittens, 515 dogs, 53 puppies, 17 ferrets, 287 different animals such as rats, bunnies, turtles, horses, goats etc.
They returned 643 lost animals to their owners.
Volunteer hours 17,671.
And that is all in 2016! Amazing right?!?
Ok, back to this adorable image!
I colored her with Copic markers. I chose green for her glasses and shirt because that is Kylah’s favorite color.
I found this adorable kitty paper on Etsy. I was so excited. Do you used digital papers? It’s really something I have not used a lot in the passed, but I have found myself using more and more lately. Especially if I find myself crafting late at night and I don’t have the perfect paper for my project.
Now for my proud Mama portion of pictures. These are pictures of Kylah…the first one with one of our foster kittens. We got them when they were 3 days old. There were 9 of them and the mama. We had to bottle feed the smallest ones a few times a day.
This one, we were helping out with a Cat adoption day at Pet Co. Kylah fell in love with this little guy.
If you love animals, volunteering at an animal shelter is a great way to help animals and get involved in your community. One person can make a difference!
